We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Revenue Accountant with minimum of 3 years of experience in oil and gas revenue accounting and the ability to build revenue allocation models from the ground up. This position will play a key role in developing and automating revenue allocation processes, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate will combine deep knowledge of oil and gas accounting standards with a strong understanding of commercial agreements, pricing structures, and allocation methodologies across gas, NGLs, and crude oil in the Lower 48 (Canadian experience a plus). This position is part-time with the potential for full-time.
Revenue Modeling & System Automation
• Design and build detailed revenue allocation models from scratch in Excel to allocate revenues accurately across wells, measurement points, and owners.
• Collaborate with technology and accounting teams to develop and transition manual models into automated system-based solutions for improved efficiency and accuracy.
• Identify opportunities to streamline data integration between production, measurement, and accounting systems.
Revenue Accounting & Analysis
• Analyze and record revenue from production sales, purchaser statements, and imbalance settlements.
• Account for actual and accrued revenues based on volumetric data, field reports, and purchaser run tickets.
• Review and interpret sales, transportation, and processing agreements to understand pricing terms, delivery obligations, and volume commitments.
• Evaluate differential pricing structures, index-based sales, and pipeline/gatherer statements to ensure proper pricing and posting of revenues.
• Conduct detailed variance and trend analysis to validate revenue accuracy and explain monthly fluctuations.
Reconciliation & Reporting
• Reconcile production volumes, purchaser statements, and revenue postings to confirm completeness and accuracy of reported results.
• Support the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting deliverables.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation related to production and revenue recognition.Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with land, marketing, and production teams to ensure commercial terms are reflected correctly in accounting.• Provide analytical insights into how commercial agreements and contract structures impact revenue allocation and financial results.
• Support internal and external audit requests related to production and revenue accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in oil and gas revenue accounting or upstream accounting roles.
• Demonstrated ability to build complex financial or allocation models using advanced formulas, data validation, and automation tools.
• Experience working with common oil and gas accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Enertia, Quorum, Bolo, or similar).
• Proven ability to interpret and apply terms from commercial and transportation contracts to revenue recognition.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a desire to understand the “why” behind the numbers.
